The intense weather forced the evacuation of around 350,000 residents, delivering torrential rain and damaging winds, especially between Guangdong's Wuchuan and Wenchang in Hainan. Storm Details Matmo, the 21st typhoon of 2025, had sustained wind speeds of 151km/h and poured more than 50mm of precipitation in six hours in Qinzhou and Chongzou. Urban areas of the region also experienced significant rain amounts. The storm prompted China's highest-level red alert, with disturbances in the city, where businesses, transportation systems and highways were shut. In the special administrative region, 100 flights were impacted and dozens called off. Future Projections As Matmo advances inward towards the provincial area in Vietnam, it is expected to diminish into a tropical depression with 55mph winds but will persist to bring substantial precipitation. Northern Vietnam could experience significant rainfall on the following day, increasing the threat of flooding and landslides. Colima and western Jalisco could receive 50-100mm. In other parts, Cyclone Shakhti has developed as the initial post-season storm system of the year in the Arabian Sea, causing an warning from the national weather agency for Maharashtra. On that day, the cyclone was 209 kilometers south-east of Ras al Hadd, Oman with peak wind speeds of 103km/h. The storm, which has tracked in a southwestern direction and lost strength, is forecast to turn towards the east into the Arabian Sea.
